In just a few hours, author and Canon of Grace Cathedral, Lauren Artress transformed the Hotel Highland’s conference center into mystery’s maternity ward.
Lauren has spent the better part of twenty years introducing spiritual seekers to the labyrinth, what she calls “a watering hole for the spirit.”
Fifty such seekers from Alabama, Mississippi, and Georgia were gathered for a workshop with Lauren as she reminded us of our “innate call toward wholeness.”
Lauren suggested we ask ourselves four simple, yet powerful questions. She told us that standing in the light of these queries would move us toward wholeness. “Be gentle with these questions.” Lauren soothingly coaxed. “There is no need to be judgmental. Simply ask yourself:
- Am I deepening in compassion?
- Am I increasing in patience?
- Am I lessening my judgments against myself and others? And,
- Am I of service to the world?”
Imagine if we spent just a few minutes each day reviewing where we stand in the realm of compassion, patience, judgment, and service. How might our days be different if we were to gently return to these questions?
Let’s remain with Lauren’s teachings these next few days and delve into what we know about compassion, patience, judgment and service. Maybe we can soften some of the edges and shed light on how to move toward wholeness together.
